Homemade Apple Sauce! 6 Servings for about $4.00

We recently went to a local apple orchard, we look forward to picking our own fruits/veggies every summer.  Our orchard has 18 different types of apples, and they are all $.89/pound.  So we go and get about 20lbs. at a time.  Then I put them away as I have free time during the day!  This week I decided to make some applesauce.  It was easy, and made my house smell fabulous!

Dig out your crock pot, and put 2 T brown sugar, 1 strip of lemon peel and squeeze a half a lemon in the bottom of it (about 1tsp. lemon juice).  Then peel, core, and slice up about 8 medium apples, add them to the crock pot.  Sprinkle some cinnamon on top, about 1tsp. 

Cover the crock pot, set on low, and cook for 4 hours, stirring every 45 minutes or so.  If your crock pot is older, you might have to cook it longer, depending on how hot it gets.  After 4 hours, you can mash all the apples with your potato masher and mash the apples up a little bit.  Then put in containers and put them in the fridge until you are ready to serve!  This apple sauce should last about a week, enjoy!
